Finding Big Item Pick Up Solutions in Broward County

July 23, 2019.

When you’re in the middle of a serious job, the last thing you want to worry about is waste disposal. The truth is, bulky waste piling up around you can put a serious damper on productivity and create more than a few safety hazards around your work site. No matter what kind of project you’re considering, it’s always wise to make a plan for big item pick up and waste disposal before work begins. Though there is more to bulk disposal than tipping your waste into the weekly curbside pickup bin, it doesn’t have to be a stressful or overwhelming experience.

Understanding all your large item disposal options can help you make an informed decision tailored to the unique needs of your individual project.

The Ins and Outs of Big Item Pick Up in Broward County

On the municipal services front, big item pick up services are relatively limited. Bulk collection crews are dispatched once per month on a set schedule to remove a variety of items, including:

  • Appliances
  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Carpet and padding
  • Fencing
  • Tree trimmings
  • Branches
  • Metal poles
  • Lumber
  • Palm fronds

All palm fronds, branches and tree trimmings should be arranged in the neatest and most orderly manner possible at the curb, along with any tree trunks, large limbs or logs. Fencing, carpet, padding and similar items should be rolled and securely tied before being placed out for collection.

It’s important to note that collection teams sent out by Solid Waste and Recycling Services of Broward County will not accept any debris resulting from construction, demolition or remodeling. This includes discarded brick or concrete, drywall rubble or masonry debris. No materials generated as a result of commercial activity, including professional yard and lawncare services, may be placed out for municipal bulk collection, nor debris resulting from land clearing or development. Crews are not permitted to collected automotive parts of any kind, including bodies, parts, batteries, large truck tires or automobile tires still mounted on rims, or any marine parts. Household chemicals, paint, insecticides and hazardous waste are not accepted.

No items may be placed in unpaved right-of-way areas, near mailboxes, fire hydrants, cable boxes, utility poles, fences or parked vehicles. It’s also important to note that items that are not acceptable for big item pick up will not be moved in order to collect items which can be collected, so including them at the curb may result in the majority of your bulk waste being left uncollected if it is rendered inaccessible by an uncollectable item.

This is all, of course, assuming that you’re able to make real life work around a municipal schedule, which is rarely the case. A big move, closing the estate of a loved one, getting a rental property ready for the market or new tenants, hoarding mitigation or even just working to reclaim a cluttered space in your house can all be incredibly time-sensitive tasks. Waiting for one day out of the month when you can dispose of large items just isn’t always feasible, nor is everyone physically capable of dragging large, heavy and ungainly items down to the curb for collection.

Sometimes, you need more than the go-ahead to pile unwanted items up at the curb for municipal trucks to haul away to the local landfill. In such cases, true white-glove, full-service hauling with an emphasis on keeping items out of the ever-swelling boundaries of Broward County’s own “Mount Trashmore” can make all the difference.

Big Item Pick Up with a Conscience

What if there were a way you could not only get rid of all the items you no longer want or need, but could also make a difference for your community and the environment, all without doing any of the heavy lifting? You don’t have to drag everything down to the curb yourself, invest valuable time in sorting and managing things you just want to get rid of anyway, or to risk injury trying to tear out dirty, damaged carpeting bound for the trash heap. There is another, more efficient way to deal with all the things you need to dispose of, not just the big items, the bulky ones or the tricky ones to throw away properly.

At Jiffy Junk, we’re dedicated to bringing our Broward County clients the very best in private waste management with a conscience, no matter how large or how small the job. We’ll come to your home or place of business on your schedule to remove anything you no longer want or need, but we’re not taking the fastest route to the Monarch Hill landfill when we’ve collected all you’ve discarded.

First, we separate anything still in usable condition and mark it for delivery to local donation centers. This keeps items like furniture, household goods, outgrown toys and outdated clothing in your community, where they can help those in need rather than taking up dwindling space in a landfill creeping closer to capacity with every passing day. Everything else, we take to recycling centers or work to find sustainable disposal solutions for so that you can feel good about choosing Jiffy Junk for all your disposal needs.

We don’t just pull up to collect your cast-offs from the curb, though. Our trained and experienced removal technicians will uninstall unwanted appliances, tear out old carpeting you’re ready to dispose of, and clean up after themselves when everything is removed, so you have a dust-free space just as clean as your conscience and ready for whatever life holds next.

Don’t let a big job get you down. With a single phone call, we can help you take care of all your disposal needs quickly, efficiently and ethically so you can focus your attention on all the other aspects of your big project.
