There should be a keep pile designated for things you’d like to hold onto, a donate pile for items still useable but that no longer work for your purposes, and a discard pile for everything else.
Eventually, the discard pile will be sorted again into things that can be trashed and things that can be recycled. Ideally, the recycle pile will be the largest, with many items being repurposed and reused in different formats.
