Before you know it, your garage is already inundated with so many things you don’t really need. Many of them, you might not have even seen in years.
Clear out your garage first. Put everything that you have in it in an empty space like your front yard (or inside your home if you don’t have enough space). Use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of all that accumulated dust it’s left behind.
Next, sort through all of your stuff. Get rid of the old and the unused. Create a rule and stick with it no matter what – such as: anything not used in the last 6 months is junk.. Separate the items for junk removal, those you’re going to donate and the items you’ll sell.
Install open shelves and put them up on a sturdy wall. You can put all of the things you have decided to keep in transparent boxes to make them easier to see. Also, you can add labels on these boxes. That way, you don’t have to open everything when you’re looking for something.
Just like what you did with your garage, you should take out everything you have in your kitchen first. Start with your cupboards and cabinets. Empty them out and lay down on the floor. This will make it easier to see how much stuff you have.
Sort through your things. If you have a lot of dinnerware that you haven’t even opened yet, consider putting them up for sale. You can hold on to a few pieces just in case but make an effort to pare down your collection.
Test the old appliances you have stored in your kitchen. That old blender you’ve been holding on to – it might not even work anymore.

Remove the contents of your living room storage. You might have a side table that also doubles as extra storage. You might have a TV console that also has storage.
Again, you need to decide what to keep. Usually, people store old electronic boxes in their living room – it’s a severe waste of space. And have you ever smelled old cardboard? It’s definitely no candle scent you’d want in your indoor space
Start with the closet. This is often the most cluttered part of the bedroom. Remove all of your clothes and things from the closet and lay them down on the floor.
After that, sort out your clothes. Make a pile for keep, donate and sell. Many of us hold on to clothes in the hopes that we can still use them someday. But more often than not, these clothes just end up collecting dust in your closet.
Think of it this way, wouldn’t you want someone else to enjoy wearing these clothes? It would be better if your beautiful clothes served another person instead of space in your closet.
Store clothes that are not in-season in a box. You can separate them into types of clothes. For instance, put all sweaters in one box and place a label on it to make it easier to find. This will reduce your chances of rummaging through your stuff and creating more clutter.
Next, tackle all your sentimental items. Do you have old photos you have been holding on to? How about childhood stuff that has been with you forever?
There’s nothing wrong with holding on to sentimental objects. But if they occupy too much space, it’s time to let go of some of them. If you are having trouble letting go, why not try taking photos of them? That way, you can still remember them without physically owning them.
