3PL Warehouse Decommissioning

A client contract ends, a lease runs out, or two buildings get consolidated into one, and a building has to be empty by a fixed date. We clear it out in phases alongside your wind-down, so the last outbound load and the handback walkthrough don't collide.

Proudly serving all 50 states and Canada — one vendor, one invoice, nationwide coverage.

A hard date and a building full of leftovers

Closing a 3PL site is a different job from a routine cleanout. The date is fixed by a lease or a contract. Outbound is still running in one half of the building while the other half is supposed to be emptying. Nobody wants to own the leftovers: client stock that wasn't recalled, pallets that piled up over the last few months, packing stations, the shipping office, and racking that has to come down before the keys go back.

Meanwhile, the operations team that knows the building best is busy moving freight, and the landlord expects the space back in the condition the lease describes. Bringing in separate vendors for the dumpster, the scrap, the electronics and the furniture means more scheduling, more insurance certificates and more invoices to reconcile after the site has already closed.

What we remove during a decommission

We work zone by zone, so finished areas get cleared while active areas keep shipping:

  • Pallet racking and shelving: teardown and removal. See Pallet & Racking Removal.
  • Pallets, skids and packaging waste, including cardboard, shrink wrap and dunnage.
  • Leftover or obsolete inventory: with the inventory owner's sign-off, we can destroy unsold, damaged or branded product and provide a certificate of destruction.
  • Packing and pick stations, workbenches, carts and cages.
  • Office, break room and locker room contents: desks, chairs, filing cabinets and appliances.
  • Scanners, printers, computers and other electronics, sorted for recycling.
  • Scrap metal and general debris from the takedown.

We take almost any non-hazardous material.

Full waste and recycling services for a shutdown

Jiffy Junk does more than junk removal. We have access to all waste and recycling assets and services, which matters most at the end of a building's life, when the volume spikes and then stops:

  • Roll-off dumpsters from 10 to 40 yards, staged for the weeks of wind-down and swapped as they fill. See dumpster rental.
  • Cardboard and pallet pickups on a set schedule until the last shipment leaves. See cardboard pickup.
  • Scrap metal recycling for racking and metal fixtures. See scrap metal removal.
  • Electronics recycling for retired devices. See electronics recycling.

If you're opening or expanding another building at the same time, we can set up recurring service there too.

How a decommission runs

  1. Show us the building. Send photos, a floor plan or a video walk, along with your handback date.
  2. Agree on phases and price. We map the work against your outbound schedule and the handback date, then give you an upfront price based on volume, labor and access. Labor, hauling and disposal are included.
  3. Clear finished zones first. Crews work early mornings, evenings, weekends or overnight, so they stay out of the way of the last shipments.
  4. Final sweep before the walkthrough. Our optional White Glove Treatment leaves the space broom-clean for the landlord inspection.
  5. Close out the paperwork. We can add PO and site numbers to the invoice, and provide a certificate of destruction for any inventory we destroy.

Crews are licensed, insured, uniformed and background-checked. We can provide proof of insurance before work starts.

Every site, one vendor

A consolidation rarely involves just one building. It can mean closing two sites and opening one in a different state. Proudly serving all 50 states and Canada, Jiffy Junk can handle each exit and each new setup with one point of contact, instead of a new local hauler in every market. If you need it, we can consolidate billing across locations onto one invoice. For ongoing programs, see Multi-Location & National Accounts.

Reuse and recycling at closeout

When a building shuts down, a lot of what's left still has use. Furniture and equipment in working condition go to local charities. Metal, cardboard, electronics and wood are sorted for recycling. Only what can't be reused or recycled goes to licensed disposal.

Decommissioning FAQ

How far ahead should we book a decommission? As early as you know the date. Booking early gives us room to phase the work and to sort more for donation and recycling.

Can you clear leftover client inventory? Yes. With the inventory owner's sign-off, we can destroy unsold, damaged or branded inventory and provide a certificate of destruction.

Do you take down pallet racking? Yes. Our crews handle racking teardown and removal as part of the decommission, and the steel is sorted for recycling.

Will the building be ready for the landlord walkthrough? We leave cleared areas broom-clean with our optional White Glove Treatment, so your team can focus on the handback checklist.

Can you work while final orders are still going out? Yes. We clear finished zones first and schedule crews around your shipping hours, including evenings, weekends and overnight.

We're closing sites in more than one state. Can you do all of them? Yes. We serve all 50 states and Canada with one point of contact. Consolidated billing across locations is available if you need it.
