Indiana disposal and recycling rules

  • Since January 1, 2011, Indiana households, schools and small businesses may not put TVs, computers, monitors, peripherals, e-readers, DVD players and other covered devices in trash headed for a landfill or incinerator (IDEM).
  • Solid waste districts and cities run their own e-waste and bulk-item collections.
  • Appliances that contain refrigerant need it recovered under EPA Section 608 before scrapping, so those units are handled separately from other junk.

Official rules: Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), plus your city or county solid waste department.
